Trust & Safety

The AfterWorn Safety Center

AfterWorn is built around one idea: a marketplace for intimate, pre-loved items should be safe by default. Older platforms in this space have a reputation for scams, off-site payments and weak support. This page describes how we protect people — and it says plainly which protections are already running and which are still being built. AfterWorn is in early access, and payments have not launched.

Trust Score (0–100)

Every seller carries a public Trust Score from 0 to 100, shown on their profile and on listing cards. It is built from signals we can measure today — account age, response time, sales volume, review quality and dispute history — plus components that only start counting once identity verification and Proof of Wear go live. The breakdown is transparent: click the score to see how it is made up, including the parts that are still at zero.

Verified Wear Badge

The Verified Wear badge is earned, not bought. Once orders and Proof of Wear are live, it will be granted automatically to sellers with a strong track record — a high volume of completed orders, consistent Proof of Wear submissions, a very high approval rate and no lost Proof-of-Wear disputes in the recent period. No seller holds it yet, because no orders have been completed on AfterWorn.

Verification

Proof of Wear

Proof of Wear (“POW”) is a planned step in which the seller submits a photo or short video of the worn item next to the order code, confirming the item is genuine and matches the listing. It launches together with on-platform payments. It will be mandatory for orders of USD 50 or more, for newer sellers, and any time a buyer requests it at checkout.

Submitted media will be checked before the buyer sees it: location-revealing EXIF data is stripped and the image goes through our moderation pipeline. Automatic reading of the order code from the photo (OCR) is not built yet — until it is, order codes will be checked by a person. Where POW is required, the buyer's shipping address will only be released to the seller once POW is approved.

Identity

Identity Verification Tiers (planned)

Identity and age verification is not connected yet — no seller on AfterWorn has been through a document check. It is planned in four tiers through a verification partner, and sellers will need to reach at least Tier 2 before they can publish. Today, entry is gated by an 18+ confirmation, every listing is reviewed before it goes live, and a seller can earn a Verified badge only after our team reviews their profile by hand.

Tier 1 — Basic

Email confirmed; phone to follow.

Tier 2 — Age Verified

Government ID, confirmed 18+. Will be required to sell.

Tier 3 — Identity Verified

ID plus selfie liveness check.

Tier 4 — Premium Verified

Tier 3 plus proof of address and manual review.

Fraud prevention

AI Scam Detection

Behind the scenes, AfterWorn runs a multi-signal risk system. It looks at dozens of indicators — account age, device and IP patterns, photo duplication, copied descriptions, dispute history and user reports — and assigns each account a risk score. High-risk accounts face extra review, listing restrictions or suspension. Automated photo screening is wired up but still waiting on its provider; until it is live, a person reviews every listing photo before it appears on the site.

Stay protected

Keep Communication On-Platform

Our messaging includes a PII filter that detects email addresses, phone numbers, external links and payment handles. This is not about restricting you — it is the single most effective protection we can offer. A conversation that stays on AfterWorn leaves a record our support team can read when something goes wrong. If you move to a private chat app or pay directly, none of that applies, and you are on your own. Anyone who pressures you to take payment or conversation off-platform is a red flag — report them.

Red flags

How to Spot & Report a Scam

Be cautious if a buyer or seller:

  • Asks you to pay or be paid outside AfterWorn — by bank transfer, gift card or direct crypto.
  • Pushes you to move the conversation to another app urgently.
  • Offers a deal that is far too good, or pressures you to skip Proof of Wear.
  • Has a brand-new account, no verification, a low Trust Score and no reviews.
  • Sends links to "verify your account" or "claim a payment" on outside sites.

Every listing, profile and message has a Report option. Reports go to our Trust & Safety team and feed the AI risk system. Reporting is confidential — the other party is not told who reported them.

Control

Blocking Users

You can block any user at any time. Blocking is mutual: a blocked user can no longer message you, and you will not see each other in discovery. Blocking does not notify the other person. Combine blocking with reporting whenever someone makes you uncomfortable.

Discretion

Discreet Packaging & Privacy

Privacy is built into the product. Orders ship in plain, unbranded packaging with neutral customs declarations. Use display names only and ship discreetly; avoid sharing real addresses in messages. Any identity data we hold is never shown to other users, and you can hide your profile from search engines. For full details, see our Shipping Guide and Privacy Policy.
